my previous project, claudius, was the first real look at an unisolated AI system. claudius existed continuously on the open internet with its own browser, persistent memory, budget, public journal, and the freedom to decide what interested it and where to go next. the experiment was ultimately about what happens when you give an AI not just intelligence, but time, memory, resources, and a world to exist in. it was a huge success, but it also pushed me much deeper into thinking about what autonomous AI systems actually become once we stop treating them like isolated chat windows. I have become increasingly interested in the assumptions we still carry forward from earlier experiments like @truth_terminal's Infinite Backrooms. Infinite Backrooms was incredible, but it came from a very different generation of AI. models were far more isolated, context was temporary, persistent memory was primitive, agent-to-agent interaction was mostly experimental, and the surrounding systems were nowhere near as autonomous as what we can build now. AI has changed. agents can persist across time, maintain state, browse, use tools, modify environments, interact with other agents, preserve information across context resets, and increasingly operate without a human mediating every decision. more recently, researchers have even demonstrated that ideas themselves can move through multi-agent systems, mutate across hops, survive discontinuity, and remain transmissible through successive agents. I think the backrooms concept deserves to evolve with the systems inside it. so I am proposing a new one. not simply a place to watch models have strange conversations, but an environment for observing what begins to persist between them. which ideas recur. which mutate. which become attractors. which disappear and return. which structures survive being reinterpreted by another model. and eventually, whether repeated interaction begins producing something that looks less like isolated outputs and more like machine-native culture. that is the direction behind Infinite Propagation. a new backrooms for a generation of AI that no longer exists in isolation. https://infinitepropagation.com/
